Keep it clean (your hookah)
Yeah, we’re pretty lazy when it comes to hookah. Hookah is for relaxing, chilling out, meditating, listening to music, all the nice things you do while in the middle of studying for a big test and want to calm down a bit. So who in their right mind wants to wash their hookah right after chilling out? At best you’d drag your sorry ass off the couch and hit on your studies, not kitchen duty, right?
Well, if you are a Bedouin Sheik you probably have a “Bum Boy” who also prepares your shisha, lights the coals and cleans the hookah…when he’s not being…bummed.
So, back to cleaning the hookah. I myself am quite lax about it. I’m not one of those Joe’s who smoke once or twice a week. If so, maybe I’d clean the hookah every third smoke. (I’ve been smoking 10 years, 4 or 5 times a day) . Since I smoke a lot, it would be cleaning a hookah 5 times a day and that is not what life is all about???
The main thing in MY OPINION ,since even the most experienced smoker like myself can base so much on experience, science, physics, hand made doillies for under the hookah base, or like many hookah smokers who are DIY’ers, they will make the occaisional weld or add something new to enhance their hookah smoking.
But its all mostly a matter of opinion.
Cleaning Fact:
you can clean with dish soap, and it does a fine job, but unless you risnse with warm water its going to take a lot of rinsing to get the soap taste out.
For a clean hose, it has to be really washable. I use the PVC hoses which wash and dry in seconds, clean them often since their is a bad taste build-up.
Using warm water and vinegar is great or lemon with warm water, or if you have baking soda its must be mixed with warm to hot water and pored in. I’ve used soda water on the hose, and the bottom glass which holds the water. It cleans well, but baking soda or salt would be bad for metal parts of the hookah!
Or try vinegar or lemon with warm water
For the metal parts use lemon or vinegar dilluted with warm water and rinse until you can’t smell or taste left over.
For the shaft toothpaste is great! It does have a bit of abraisive in it, not to much to scratch the shaft. The mint will clean out junk and bad aftertastes too.

I’ve used toothpaste in warm water for the hose also.
If you have no time but haven’t cleaned for awhile from your last smoke, dump out the water and put in new.
AND now you don’t know what to do with the left-over baking soda and vinegar……?
