If you remember , in previous posts I wrote about the reasons for using a diffuser on the end of the hookah metal shaft on the bottom where it goes into the water.Happy Halloween

(Look in the blog search under “diffuser” to see great photos of how it actually works in¬† the water and other info). So why am I writing again on the subject? Well, I did write that I’d taken the black tin shaft off a BBQ lighter after I’d refilled it a number of times but the flint was bad! I put it on the end of a mini hookah shaft, which to my opinion¬† are quite short anyhow and barely reach the water level, which means that you have very little room for the smoke in the bowl. It fit the mini hookah shaft perfectly and there is a big ¬†hole at the end of its shaft and holes on 3 sides of the shaft all which make smaller bubbles, better pull and its a quit smoke!¬†¬† But would it work on a large hookah? I used up the¬† butane in one of my lighters, refilled it and waited until the flint was ground down and wouldn’t¬† work. Tonight I tried it on the very large hookah I have. It would not slide in to the shaft, but like I’d mentioned, they all have a slit on the tin on the top of the shaft where it is connected to the¬† plastic of the lighter itself. I put that in edgewise, and it contracted into the hookah shaft perfect fit. When I put the whole apparatus into the water, it hit the bottom of the bowl even though I used one of the short lighter barrel shafts. This is the best kind to get, and cheapest also, not neccesarilyfrom this compant though :Now¬† upon placing it in the shaft it did hit the glass bottom, so I took it out and pushed it in just a few more milimeters. It smokes perfectly, now I don’t have to put in new drinking straws and replace like before. Its permanent! For cleaning the shaft I’ll need to take it out, but its strong material. What the foil?

We , the dedicated hookah smokers around the world all use tin foil to place our coals on (shiny side down)

so that they won’t burn the shisha tobacco. That includes the Arabs and India who originated the hookah, and didn’t have tin foil to use!

I use a foil¬† pie tin instead of the normal ash catcher plate as big as I want so that I won’t have ash, or worse falling coals on the floor.

Without the pie of course!There are even bigger ones, of course!I¬† cut in the middle a hole so that it goes over the shaft, then place the original heavy metal ash tray to weight it down.
