We all know that ice in the hookah’s water will cool your smoke, but I’ve a better permanate tip 4U!
The ice does tend to melt. Recently I’ve taken a few aluminum pots without handles and some large plastic bowls, filled them with ice and it cools around the hookah bowl! But after the ice melts, I add some more water and leave it like that. What is good about it is the water itself will cool the hookah smoke always, it also is a great anchor to keep my hookah from tipping and IF a hot coal fall, it will end up in the water and not on the rug!

and if you burn your finger on a coal you can put it straight into the water.

One thing to do too is if you freeze water in the base just under the pipe that will eventually be submerged, then you don’t have to worry so much about melting and warming. But if you can’t do that, then the ice in a bowl around it is a nice touch. If you add cold water to begin with in the ice surrounding it will maximize the surface area covered.
